Job Description:
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Responsibilities:
- Implementing the requirements in ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management standard.
- Report and investigate environmental incidents, hazards and HPHs
- Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
- Evaluates and assesses atmospheric and water pollutants by collecting and analysing samples.
- Conduct storm Environmental Management inspections
- Assist in Energy, Noise, Climate Change and Water management
- Assist in the management and handling of hazardous/ chemical substances, by conducting MSDS reviews, monitoring the storage of hazardous substances etc.
- Checking the weather station and dust monitoring systems and calibrating equipment
- Auditing and action close
- Provide guidance and support to line managers on managing environmental concerns and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Attend to and address environmental incidents and complaints
- Follow up on Incidents, hazards and HPH close out
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of the GIS System is essential
- 2–4years operational experience in Environmental in the Mining industry
Qualification & Experience:
- Driver’s License: Code B (Light vehicle)
- Registration with SACNASP South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions will be advantageous
- Implementation of ISO14001:2015 and Environmental Laws for managers certificates will be advantageous
- Grade 12
- B Degree or B. Tech in Environmental Sciences & management
