Job Responsibilities:

Manage the process of applications for biodiversity conservation permits; Present and render advisory services with regard to applications as required; Manage the issuing of permits after approval as delegated; Ensure the maintenance of the database on the permits issued. Approval/rejection of the following biodiversity conservation permits: Nature Conservation Ordinance, 1983; Threatened or Protected Species (TOPS) Regulations, 2007; Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Regulations, 2010; Bioprospecting, Access and Benefit-sharing (BABS) Regulations, 2015. Regulation of the trade in wildlife, plants, animals, importation of alien species and bio prospecting. Regulate sustainable natural resource uses through a permit system; Implement sustainable use projects including awareness programmes on medicinal plant use, hunting and angling resources in the province. Providing advice to the general public on biodiversity management best practices in accordance with current legislation and policies; Advice on the utilization of nature’s resources to ensure sustainability and protect biodiversity. Manage and oversee the handling of public complaints about problem animals. Develop policies, legislation, regulations and guidelines, provincially and locally; Consult on the formulation of policies, legislation, guidelines, norms and standards, and strategies; Participate and submit inputs to national legislation/policies. Facilitate the development of a Computerised Permits System (CPS) for Ordinance permits

Job Requirements:

Grade 12 plus an appropriate recognised 4-year Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 8) as recognised by SAQA in Nature Conservation, Conservation Biology, Biological Science, Natural Science, Wildlife Management. or relevant. Minimum of 6 years’ experience working in a relevant Biodiversity/Wildlife Management/Nature conservation environment. A valid driver’s licence. COMPETENCIES: Knowledge and understanding of relevant SA environmental and biodiversity legislation and able to apply them. Management of information. Knowledge of biodiversity conservation principles. Policy development and analysis, Program and Project Management. Computer literacy, including knowledge of GIS and remote sensing. Statistical analysis and modelling. Good report writing skills. People management skills. Good administration, Planning and organizing skills. Good problem-solving ability. Presentation skills
