Job Description:

Essential skills include the direction, conducting and development of choirs, orchestra, and bands, and have experience in the position of Musical Director for school musical productions. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to get on with a wide range of people and to support and encourage musicians of all abilities. Well-developed organisational skills and IT skills are expected, and an understanding that the Head of Campus Music is not limited to the hours of the school day.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the Music Department budget, including planning, recording and reviewing expenditure as appropriate.
  • Lead the development of school policy in Music to ensure an interesting, well-planned approach which is consistent throughout the School and has continuity and progression across all levels.
  • Be part of the wider Music Department, encouraging students and advising them and their parents in the choice of instruments.
  • To plan, organise and deliver musical performances with students across the age groups.
  • Organise and oversee a programme of concerts, performances and the provision of Music for Assemblies, Prizegiving and Music competitions.
  • Responsibility of all aspects of curricular and co-curricular Music in the schools, including all Choirs, Orchestra, Rock Bands, Music ensembles and Jazz Band and any other Music groups.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning in the Music Department, to ensure high standards.
  • To utilise digital tools to enhance the delivery of the Music curriculum.
  • Promote Redhill School Music outside of the School.
  • To ensure that the Music curriculum is creative, innovative, engaging, and differentiated for a range of student abilities.
  • Play a crucial role in whole-school strategy and development in relation to Music.
  • Ensure a high profile for Music throughout the School.
  • Have an overview of the development of each child’s musical progression.

Job Requirements:

  • Have an appropriate university degree and is registered with SACE.
  • Be highly organised, industrious and punctual.
  • Have a strong set of teaching skills and relevant professional training.
  • Have the ability to lead others and, when necessary, convey the highest expectations of performance and behaviour, both to students and to staff alike.
  • Maintain a sense of humour and perspective.
  • Have enthusiasm, commitment and energy.
  • Have a high profile as a role model for students and parents, with obvious drive and vision.
