Job Description:
Rand Water is currently looking for a Master Technician: GIS at their head office in Glenvista, Johannesburg South. Reporting to the GIS Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for providing corporate wide Geographical Information System consulting and oversight for GIS projects. The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating workflows on projects with Rand Water Services and will be responsible for mentoring GIS interns / learners
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures integrity and relevancy of datasets
- Provide expert advice to organisation on all GIS related matters
- Provide database development support to GIS Manager
- Make oral presentations of system analysis, design, and operational data in a clear, concise andnon-technical manner
- Design and implement data conversion procedures and perform database quality control
- Promotion of GIS section, demonstration of its service offering and products
- Apply remote sensing and photogrammetry
- Provides technical support for GIS staff
- Perform technical and related tasks with respect to mapping needs
- Provide a full GIS consultancy service to clients in Rand Water and Rand Water Services basedon the clients requirements
- Makes recommendations to GIS Manager of software and data set purchases based on technological advances
- Sources data for use
- Adjust and evaluate quality of data
- Expertise in performing data conversion and editing
Job Requirements:
- Spatial data analysis
- Advanced understanding of thecapabilities of geo-information systems
- Legislative skills – SDI Act, Promotion ofAccess to Information Act, Copyright Act,SA Geographical names Council Act
- Knowledge of topographic maps, digitalimagery, aerial photography, satelliteimagery
- Knowledge of GIS standards
- Geographical projections andconversions
- GIS software capabilities
- Theory, principles, and practices of GIS
- Cartographic and mapping principles
- Knowledge of related technologies suchas GPS, photogrammetry, remotesensing
- Advanced understanding of geographicalspace and spatial relationships
Qualification & Experience:
- Alternatively, equivalent combination of the relevant education and / or experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, GIS, Geography, or other related field
- Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise Administration and Design
- Professional Registration with SAGC as a Professional
- A minimum of 5 years experience in GIS technical field involving database and system management,data conversion and analysis of which at least 1 year should involve project management
