Job Description:
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a highly motivated individual to ensure that a professional, credible, accessible and quality-assured legal service is rendered to the Institute.
Job Responsibilities:
- Advise the CEO and Management on labour matters.
- Strategic management of legal services in the Institute including capacity building.
- Manage litigation and support on matters affecting the Institute.
- Ensure legal compliance of contracts, Memoranda of Understanding and Memoranda of Agreement and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Render professional, accessible, credible and quality assured legal services to the Institute.
- Advise the Institute, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Management on labour law and related legal matters.
- Vet all SANBI legal contracts and related correspondences in the Institute that require legal vetting and juridical editing.
- Facilitate legal services between SANBI and any legal entity.
- Ensure legal compliance of the Institute.
- Represent SANBI on all legal matters.
Job Requirements:
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Admission as an Attorney/Advocate to the High Court of South Africa with High Court right of appearance; extensive experience in providing professional, credible, accessible and quality-assured legal services; proven ability to work with government, State Attorney and non-governmental organisations; in-depth understanding of relevant South African legislation that governs SANBI; planning, organising, and report writing skills; exceptional organisational, analytical, interpersonal, and problem solving skills; outstanding communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including Ms Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook.
Qualification & Experience:
This position requires a postgraduate degree in Law/LLB or equivalent at NQF level 8. A relevant postgraduate legal qualification at NQF Level 9 and/or advanced experience in Environmental Law/Labour Law/Administrative Law will be an added advantage. This position also requires a minimum of 10 years’ post-admission experience (post admission by Legal Practice Council) in the relevant field, 5 years of which should be at middle management level.
