Job Description:
In line with the DHET’s flagship academic recruitment programme (nGAP), the Department of Architecture (DOA) at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to make a Lecturer appointment. We are seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified, and ambitious designated South African architect to develop and expand the school’s current teaching and research interests/specifications.
Job Responsibilities:
- Contribute actively to research in his/her specialist field(s);
- Supervise postgraduate students within the appropriate programme offerings.
- Teach and assess architectural design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Share in the administration and management of the DOA and the wider faculty.
- Participate in official meetings of the DOA and Faculty.
- Have an active presence as a public intellectual
- Develop key national and international links and collaborative opportunities.
Job Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborative effectivity with people from a wider range of backgrounds.
- Proven teaching ability and competence at postgraduate supervision
- Excellent communication skills in academic English
- Ability to monitor and coach student performance and provide critical feedback in an objective and professional manner.
- Proven planning and administrative skills.
Qualification & Experience:
- Experience as a researcher.
- The candidate will be expected to have registered for a PhD, or commitment to register soon. OR the successful candidate will be expected to register for a doctoral degree soon after commencement of duties.
- At least two years’ teaching experience at the tertiary level.
- A master’s in a relevant discipline (architecture, landscape architecture or urban design) is required.
